The best place to join the Wensleydale Railway when coming by car is Leeming Bar station, which is located just off the A1.

Leave the A1 by the A684 (signposted to Bedale and Northallerton), At the end of the slip road (whether you are coming from the North or the South), turn right, following signs similar to this one.

After half a mile, at the mini-roundabout, bear left and the station car park is immediately on your left, before the level crossing.

If you are coming from Northallerton on the A684, turn right at the mini-roundabout in the middle of Leeming Bar and the station car park is immediately on your left, before the level crossing.

There is normally plenty of parking available at Leeming Bar station.  However, if this is full, you can park at John H Gill's on the other side of the mini-roundabout, or ask any of our staff for assistance.

On some busy Special Event days, the Park and Ride signs will be on display to direct you to our temporary car park at Leeming Bar Services, adjoining the A1.  Frequent free buses will transfer you to the station itself.

Parking at other stations

Bedale
There are two public car parks close to Bedale station, on the town side of the railway (3 minutes’ walk). Take care when crossing the main road.

Finghall
There is no public parking at Finghall station and drop-off space is also very limited. It is not recommended that you use this station if coming by car.

Leyburn
There is public parking in the yard at Leyburn station but this can be congested at busy times.  There is further parking space available in the market place (5-10 minutes’ walk).  If coming by car to Leyburn, it is recommended that you allow a little extra time to be sure of finding a convenient parking space.

Redmire
Redmire station has a large free car park for use by Wensleydale Railway passengers; if coming from the West, the M6, Hawes or Upper Wensleydale, it is a great place to start your trip.  To reach the car park from the West, drive through Redmire village on the main road and pass under the railway bridge.  Immediately turn left up the station lane and the car park is ahead on the left. The station lane is uneven and can be slippery in bad weather so please take care when using it.
