BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY EARLY EVENING SPECIAL TRAIN

On Bank Holiday Monday, 28 August, there will be a rare chance to travel on the Wensleydale railway between Leeming Bar and Castle Hills (Northallerton).

Daily services on the line run between Leeming Bar and Redmire but on Monday 28 August, after the last scheduled service train, there will be one return train in the opposite direction.

This train will depart from Leeming Bar station at 6.45 pm and cross over Morton-on-Swale bridge on the way to the junction of the Wensleydale line with the national rail network.  There will be an opportunity to see the ‘south curve’ from the train window, namely the original route of the line into Northallerton station.

“Our next target is to re-connect the Wensleydale line with Northallerton station,” says Mrs. Ruth Annison, chairman of Wensleydale Railway. “Monday’s train will give local residents a chance to travel the route and, in many cases, to view their own house and garden from the railway.”  The return fare will be £5 (child £3) and the journey will take approximately 80 minutes.
