The best place to join our system when coming by car is Leeming Bar station.
The station is located just off the A1. Exit by the A684 for Bedale and Northallerton, and look for the YELLOW 'Wensleydale Railway' signs on the A1.
Our great location means that wherever you live in the North East and Yorkshire we are not that far away.
For more specific journey advice try the great RAC Route Planner (use 'Leases Road, Leeming Bar' as your destination).
When leaving the A1, follow the signs similar to this one. On busy days the Park and Ride signs will be on display to guide you in the right direction.
Parking
Leeming Bar There is normally plenty of parking available at the station at Leeming Bar. However, if this is full you can park at John H Gill's just across the road, or ask any of our staff for assistance. On very busy days we may operate a Park and Ride service from the service area on the A1. If this is the case, road signs will direct you to the car park. You can of course join the trains at our other stations if you wish, but in some locations facilities for parking are limited - see below
Bedale There are two public car parks close to the station, on the town side of the railway (3 minutes walk). Take care in crossing the main road.
Finghall There is no public parking at Finghall station and drop off space is also very limited. It is not recommended that you use this station if coming by car.
Leyburn There is public parking in the station yard at Leyburn but this can be congested at busy times. There is further parking space available in the market place (8 minutes’ walk). If coming by car to Leyburn, it is recommended that you allow a little extra time to be sure of finding a convenient parking space.
Redmire Redmire station has a large free car park for use by Wensleydale Railway passengers; if coming from the west, the M6, Hawes or Upper Wensleydale, it is a great place to start your trip. To reach the car park from the west, drive through Redmire village on the main road and pass under the railway bridge. Immediately afterwards turn left up the station lane and the car park is ahead on the left. The station lane is uneven and can be slippery in bad weather; please take care when using it.
